Know Your Purpose: Understanding Your Why, Your Vision and Your Mission

At the beginning of every coaching session, during keynote addresses, and many episodes of Leadership with Lovelyn, I ask one question over and over again:

“Why are you doing what you do?”

Your answer to that question is the beginning of clarity, alignment and transformation. Too many people are working hard, pushing through life, pursuing success — but without understanding the deeper reason behind their actions. Today, I want to help you distinguish your purpose, your vision, and your mission so you can build a life, career or business that aligns with who you truly are.

Your Purpose: The Why Behind Everything

Your purpose is the core reason you exist. It is the heartbeat behind every dream, every goal, every decision. It is your calling. It is the God given reason you are here. For me, a core part of my purpose “MY WHY” is empowering women. That passion fuels everything I build, create and teach. Your purpose is often rooted in personal experience, your values, and the change you wish to see in the world. When you understand your purpose, decision-making becomes easier. You stop chasing everything, and you start focusing on what truly matters.

WHAT IS YOUR PURPOSE?








    Your Vision: What You See When Your Purpose Comes Alive

    If purpose is your why, then vision is your what: the picture of what your purpose looks like in action.

    I often ask:

    “How do you see your purpose playing out?”

    Stemming from my purpose, my vision is to empower women financially and educationally, not just academically, but through life education:

    • Knowing their rights
    • Understanding what options exist
    • Realising what is possible
    • Gaining the confidence to stand strong
    • Becoming contributors to their families, communities and society

    Because the truth is simple: money talks.
    People tend to listen to wealth before they listen to degrees. Wealth creates access, credibility and influence; especially for women. I say this from experience, the more I have achieved, the more influence I have gained.

    When women are empowered financially and emotionally, they change their families, their communities and the generations coming after them.

    That is my vision!

    Your Mission: The Vehicle That Brings the Vision to Life

    Your mission is how you will achieve your vision. It is the vehicle that carries your purpose into the world.
    For me, my mission is lived out through:

    • My businesses: Healthgarde, Urban Ethnic Market
    • My foundation
    • My coaching and mentoring
    • My podcast
    • The Leadership with Lovelyn platform and YouTube channel
    • And every piece of content I create

    Every one of these vehicles allows me to deliver information, unlock wisdom, and empower women and the people around them. I say the people around them because empowerment is not only about the woman.
    The men around her also need understanding, growth and awareness, so that everyone evolves together.
    Empowered women thrive when their environment evolves with them.

    WHAT IS YOUR MISSION?

    Tie It All Together: Purpose, Vision and Mission

    Your purpose, vision and mission should never be isolated. They should flow into each other, creating clarity and direction.

    Here’s how to think about it:

    • Purpose: Why am I doing this?
    • Vision: What do I see happening as a result?
    • Mission: How will I make it happen?

    Your vision should be so clear that you can see it even in your sleep. Every idea you pursue should connect back to your purpose. When all three work together, life becomes more aligned, more impactful, and more fulfilling.

    Live With Intention

    I want to encourage you today:

    Work on your purpose.
    Define your vision.
    Craft your mission.

    When you do, you don’t just improve your life, you elevate everyone around you.
